Dr. Dan Gessler

Dr. Dan Gessler (PE) is the Global Water Infrastructure Lead at Flow Science, where he helps FLOW-3D HYDRO users apply CFD modeling to water infrastructure projects. He earned his PhD in Civil Engineering Hydraulics from Colorado State University in 1995 and continued as a research scientist until 2002, focusing on the development and application of 3D sediment transport models. He then spent 23 years at Alden Research Laboratory as the technical lead for CFD and physical modeling projects. During his time at Alden, he worked on a wide range of water infrastructure projects, including spillways, outlet works, river and reservoir hydraulics, hydropower facilities, and fish passage systems. His expertise spans numerical modeling with FLOW-3D, physical hydraulic modeling, and applied hydraulics for complex engineering challenges. Dr. Gessler has extensive experience in CFD model development, validation, and application to hydraulic structures. He has authored numerous technical papers and presentations on CFD modeling best practices and hydraulic design. In 2024, he joined the FLOW-3D HYDRO team to bring his expertise to users worldwide.
