Associate Professor, German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech)
Hind Barghash holds the position of Associate Professor in Environmental Engineering at the German University of
Technology in Oman (GUtech). She boasts an impressive academic background, with B.Sc, M.Sc, and PhD degrees
in Environmental Engineering, complemented by over two decades of professional experience in the field. Her
focus revolves around driving environmental engineering towards sustainable development goals, with specific
expertise in sustainable water and wastewater management systems, hydrogen gas production, renewable
energy, life cycle assessment (LCA), cost-benefit analysis (CBA), decarbonization, and the circular economy.
Hind's research interests primarily lie in Wastewater engineering and environmental impact assessment, with her
current research and consultancy endeavors directed towards the establishment of sustainable waste
management practices for hydrogen gas production as a renewable energy alternative for local industry
decarbonization. She is also actively engaged in research related to the water footprint. Her dedication to the field
extends to her role as an environmental expert, where she collaborates with both governmental and private sector
entities, both nationally and internationally
CEO of GS Inima Barka V
Industrial Engineer and MBA with over 25 years’ experience in international projects in different fields,
including the water and energy sector.
Most of his international career has taken place in the Middle east and Oman in particular. Juan Jose began his
journey in Oman in 1998, where he was in charge of a construction project in Salalah until 2002. Later on, in
2010, he returned to Oman as a Business Development Manager in charge of power and water projects
providing financial services to GS Inima for the bidding of the desalination projects Ghubrah 2 IWP (2012) and
Qurayyat IWP (2014).
In 2016, he was appointed CEO for the Sohar 4 IWP, a 250,000 m3/d desalination facility with a 20 years Water
Purchase Agreement with OPWP.
In 2021, Juan joined GS Inima as CEO of the Barka 5 IWP where GS Inima is responsible for the development,
design, finance, construction and 20-year operation and maintenance of a 100,000 m3/d Reverse Osmosis
desalination facility. In 2022, GS Inima approved Juan´s proposal to develop a 5 MW PV Plant for self-supply of
the Barka 5 desalination facility. The project is expected to be completed in 2024.

Lionel Rabin - Founded Haltiqa – Bridging Energies in 2018, a strategic advisory services company operating in
Oman and UAE, focused on decarbonisation. Lionel has 20 years of experience in the MENA region in world
scale utilities projects development (integration of hydrogen, water, power). He was the MD MENA region for
the world’s largest hydrogen producer and supplier. Haltiqa contributed to Oman’s green hydrogen road map
(EJAAD, The Research Centre, OQ, and MoEM), and carried out a decarbonization road map for a water
company in Sohar and a green hydrogen and ammonia pre-feasibility study for OQ. Lionel is based in Muscat.
