Dr. Mohammed Zahir Al-Abri is an Associate Professor in Petroleum & Chemical Engineering Department, College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman. In addition to his academic position, he is the Founder and Director of Nanotechnology Research Center, SQU. He completed all his tertiary education from University of Nottingham (UK) from 2003-2007. His major interest lies in cutting-edge research in nanotechnology, water treatment, hydrogen production, membrane technology and environmental engineering including applications of nanotechnology in water and petroleum industries. Dr. Al-Abri has more than 30 major research projects in different areas of water treatment and desalination, nanotechnology for environmental and renewable energy applications, and membrane technology. He has more than 85 international journal papers, 30 international conferences, 25 technical reports, 4 patent applications and 3 book chapters. Dr. Al-Abri is a member of a number of international editorial boards including being a Topic Editor in “Membranes: MDPI Journal. He organized and co-organized several international conferences in nanotechnology and water treatment.

In addition to his current work, he is a member of the Omani Water Association and head of the Scientific Committee. A former member of the Electricity and Water Conservation Committee of GCC countries.

Marouan El Khattabi received a degree in Economy from Granada University in Spain. He made also several studies from different Universities as “The Climate-Energy Challenge Course from The Harvard University” and “Project Finance and PPP Course from The New York Institute of Finance”. Marouan is working in the water market for more than 15 years being his main role to develop water projects in the MENA area implementing a long-term value for the Public and Private players.
Currently he is the Middle East Business Development Director at GS Inima, participating in projects as Barka and Ghubrah in Oman, Shuweihat in Abu Dhabi, among many others. Marouan leads the company’s business development in the MENA region in both water treatment and renewable energy, a newly created line of action in the company. He is also a member of the International Desalination Association.
Marouan is very enthusiastic and has immense idea for his work, ensuring all the targets are met, and certifies that whatsoever project he is working on meets the utmost standards. He is really an innovative, achievement oriented and wise team player.
